Haight is spoiling the race just like IRL. Sad
I don't think Merriam won simply because of Haight.  The GOP, the Hollywood film industry, and the press did everything they could to destroy Sinclair.  With that kind of opposition, he didn't stand a chance.

Not to mention he made enemies out of Hollywood, the press, and the church through his writings.
This is exactly my point.  He didn't lose simply because of Haight playing the spoiler.
