I know what it's like to lose a dog that you love and that is an important part of your life. A few years ago, my dog of 13 years died. We never put her down; she just went naturally, going under the back porch. We'd had her since I was in about kindergarten, so it was very hard to see her go. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say I was heartbroken. So yes, losing a much-loved pet sucks big time--as much as losing a family member, because they ARE part of your family.
