Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA)/Sen. Al Gore Sr. (D-TN): 401
Fmr. Vice Pres. Richard Nixon (R-NY)/Gov. Spiro Agnew (R-MD): 92
Fmr. Gov. George Wallace (I-AL)/Fmr. Gov. Marvin Griffin (I-GA): 45

Kennedy wins by a wide margin, simply due to his last name (and this is even if Chappaquiddick had happened before the election.)  After Kennedy wins the Dem nomination, Wallace drops out and runs as an Independent, selecting former Democrat Governor Marvin Griffin of Georgia as his running mate.
