 I want something to actually change for the better.  That involves someone that isn't as good at the "game" like Johnson (or Trump if he wasn't a complete sleazebag himself).

Why does being a good candidate specifically involve having poor communication skills or emotional instability? Looking through history (especially recent history in the TV era) most effective leaders were able to communicate their ideas well and were composed.

or having even cursory knowledge of the subject they plan on being in charge of?

Ever been thinking about something deeply and then someone throws a question like "what do you want for dinner?" and you respond "what?".  That's what that moment was.  Besides, we live in the Information Age anyway and the President has dozens of advisors for any situation, he could just easily educate himself on it just as thousands of Americans did after that incident.

that worked out great for George W. Bush, didn't it?
