Miles, what do you think about Virginia Foxx running for Senate?
She'd do pretty badly. Even in her district, which is very republican, she consistently underperforms all the other Republicans. She'd get clobbered.

I could see Hagan supporting SSM if it weren't for this:

There's been a bit of a kerfuffle here in the mountains recently- the Watauga County board of Elections voted to combine the college town of town of Boone's 3 precincts into one mega-precinct with 9,340 people, by far the largest in the county. Furthermore, there putting it out in the outskirts of town, as far away from the ASU campus as possible. It made Maddowblog!

WOW.

Some of the local conditions that were left out by DailyKos are kind of interesting too; The local Republican chairwoman, Anne-Marie Yates, appears to have known about the plan to combine the Boone precincts before the lone Democrat did:

What makes that even more interesting is that Yates's brother is a Republican candidate for the Boone town council. Currently, Boone's voting is too liberal to elect any Pubbie-restricting student voting would make the town a tossup.

I even have a negative opinion of the General Assembly Democrats. A fair percentage of them are Blue dogs of the useless variety (i.e., unwilling to stand up to the Republicans on anything).

The NRSC is going to attack Hagan on two new things: the welfare drug testing and the war on coal.

Seriously? They're gonna have to do better than that. Even McCrory agrees with her on the drug testing issue. I'm pretty pro-coal myself, but I'm not sure how they'll justify the war on coal attack line on her; maybe they were confusing NC with WV or KY? Obviously, coal mining is a huge economic driver in NC:

I always thought coal was huge in western NC/eastern TN.  You learn something new every day, I guess.
There's absolutely none in WNC- which is why it didn't have huge swings to Romney.

Who's a likely candidate for NC-12, Miles?

Just a little thing that occured to me after all this discussion of Aiken in CD2- Why doesn't Greg Brannon challenge Renee Ellmers? She'd probably be an easy primary- there's a lot to attack her on, and she isn't really well liked by the Tea Party or the establishment.

Good news that got neglected on election day: The Democrats now control all seats on the Wake County Commission. Which probably means light rail.
