1974 - McGovern v. Nixon
1978 - Carter v. Ford
1982 - Carter v. Reagan
1986 - Reagan v. Mondale
1990 - Bush v. Dukakis
1994 - Bush v. Clinton
1998 - Clinton v. Dole
2002 - Gore v. Bush
2006 - Bush v. Kerry
2010 - Obama v. McCain
2014 - Obama v. Romney

Or, more realistically...

1974 - McGovern v. Nixon
1978 - McGovern v. Ford
1982 - Carter v. Reagan
1986 - Reagan v. Mondale
1990 - Mondale v. Bush
1994 - Bush v. Dukakis
1998 - Dukakis v. Dole
2002 - Clinton v. Bush
2006 - Bush v. Gore
2010 - Gore v. McCain
2014 - McCain v. Kerry

Mondal would get crushed vs Reagan. Reagan approval were above 60% in Nov 1986. Iran Contra didnt come to light untill a week after that
I concur. The only states that Mondale could have picked up if the 1984 election was held 2 years later were Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Maryland, West Virginia and obviously Minnesota.
