Nationalists in Europe often see US hegemony as the biggest threat to their national sovereignty. They believe their nation's stand to benefit from a multipolar world. This is why they frequently end up siding with Russia or China, not out of some principle of liking or agreeing with these governments, but because playing to all sides gives greater international leverage and autonomy.
