The one who's ideology doesn't involve killing me and my family for the sake of revolution.

You cannot say such horrible things of Groucho, the most influential thinker in History.

The fact that you think Karl Marx is the most influential thinker in historyis absurdity and ignorance in its own right.

You know perfectly that only Jesus Christ is comparable to Karl Groucho Marx in influence. Another question is if you are not willing to admit the simple fact.

At least at our moment in history, Confucius, Shakyamuni, Aristotle, Christ, Muhammad, and Marx, and potentially a few others who I would be forgetting rather than deliberately leaving out, are pretty much in a class of their own in terms of historical influence.

Of course you are right (I'm afraid I know little about Shakyamuni) including Muhammad and Confucius, from a global perspective. We are always too Eurocentric. On the other hand, it's nice to read a serious and knowledgeable poster and I like speculations sometimes.

Quite true.  Groucho Marx is quite obviously the one shining beacon by which all other great men of history are judged

Absolutely.

Re: The GOP

I mean, they're close. They're essentially one of those far-right populist parties that win about 10% of the vote in most European countries.
Well this is true. I don't see where the GOP as it is could poll more than 10% in Europe, except maybe Poland.

You truly underestimate other Eastern European contries.

And Central (Hungary), Western and maybe Southern. The far right populists are in honeymoon in several countries.

Regarding to GOP Kal is right suggesting it would have chances in Eastern Europe. Aside from Poland, I'm thinking in Hungary, Czech or Baltic republics. And Georgia, sure, if the country belongs to the "Western Civilization" Grin. I'm totally sure that GOP might get more than 10%, but still might lose in most places.  I'm not sure if all the far right populists would vote Republican in all cases and in all countries. Many voters of traditional conservatives parties in Western Europe would vote Democratic. At least that's true in my country.

That's not even the worst thing in that thread, this is:

This might be just a ploy to try and serve out his sentence in a women's prison.

Lol. That reply wasn't there when I posted in the Deluge.

Btw, the intention is not so much to ridicule like to call the attention on the lack of decency and humanity in certain comments, even if it's not intentional and is only a reflection of certain mentality that exists in the society.

I was aware that was a joke. Regardless personal opinions on his her actions, Manning was tortured while he she was imprisoned, now he's she's condemned to spend 35 years in jail and some people make fun with the issue of his her sexual identity. Do I need to be more explicit? However, maybe it's worse the claim that Manning just want to be an attention whore (besides a traitor, I guess), as the posts that I actually quoted suggest in a very explicit way.

For me, the political issue is the indifference and tolerance towards the treatment that Manning was receiving in prison. It's a moral issue as well and, imo, indifference can explain why Guantanamo is still open. And no, I was not angry at oakvale.

It's a good post, in the sense that is a magnificent example of reactionary mentality. It might work as an explanatory preamble in a Friends of Pinochet convention.

I think his reasoning initially was that Chavez's agenda was quite similar to Jorge Haider or Le Pen's, basically espouse nationalism (something Chavez was huge on) while implementing state control of the economy. A very simplified version but the whole basic jist.

Italian fascism is something more than nationalism and state control of the economy. You're forgetting corporatism (which is quite different from socialism), irredentism, expansionism, traditionalism, sexism, nostalgia of the Imperial Rome, hands on hips, black shirts and blah, blah, blah.

You do realise that is better go away running when people start to discuss on Venezuelan politics. Fascists here, fascists there... Come on, boys. How boring.
