Uh, I think you're overreacting a bit... KEmperor was just going on his interpretation of the Constitution, which, now that I read the clause in question, simply missed the specification that "weekend" begins on a Friday.

So do we retract our oaths or not, Gabu? I had thought it was the weekend of the 7th, until KEmp said it was this weekend.

Yeah, I was under the same impression.  I don't think we need to retract them; they're just invalid until the 7th.

I'm not trying to be a bitch or anything but it's always been the other way.
OK. I think the problem here had to do with vagueness in the Constitution more than anything else. I can certainly wait until the 7th to be a Senator.

That's basically what I thought was going on.

Yet another topic for the Constitutional Convention? ;-)

Yeah, I told Peter Bell in that topic he made that that probably should be made clearer.

You realise it is actually a constitutional requirement on your holding office to take the constitutionally prescribed oath.

I know, I know. That was just a joke.

I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of Secretary of the Treasury, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the Atlas Forum, so help me Dave.

Aww, I liked the other one more. Smiley

Where is the VP-elect.  Does he get sworn in now, or later?

Everyone gets sworn in at the same time, I think.

Of course, this would be only the second time I'd have been right about procedure. Smiley

Does this mean that my re-introductions and my vote on the amendment don't count since I wasn't officially sworn in, Gabu?  If so, I'll correct that now.

No, I'll just act as if they didn't count until now.  No point in making life more difficult when it doesn't have to be.

Given that there was quite a bit of confusion over when WMS and I got sworn in the first time, I can't exactly laugh. Smiley  Instead I will say that I feel your pain.

Haha...man, you ever had one of those days?  Spill your coffee, misplace your keys, accidentally swear yourself into the Presidency.

Yeah, and then accidentally swear to protect first and foremost the Constitution of the Southeastern Region, you dirty Confederate traitor. Tongue

So since Al isn't the PPT anymore and Defarge isn't VP anymore who is going to call the vote on Ebowed and PPT to orde and the re-introduced bill thing? Tongue

I'm sure we could overlook the breach of procedure if, say, Joe were to accidentally make a post starting the vote.

Perhaps you could all read Article 2, Section 3 of War and Peace that Sam wrote for you.

The problem is that neither clause there applies.  Clause 1 doesn't apply because there is neither any publicly announced absence by the PPT nor any PPT to appoint a senator to the position temporarily.  Clause 2 doesn't apply because the PPT has not been inactive for seven days (we don't even have one, so he can't very well be inactive).

I personally don't particularly care how we get a VP, however, and I doubt the rest of the Senate does, either.  This is evidently a special case that needs consideration, and we can't do so until we have someone to open and close votes on legislation.  If we want to let Clause 2 apply even though it doesn't, then I can open the vote.  I don't care.
