Some friends from out of town are visiting for the weekend, but they sort of just invited themselves and assumed I'd be free. They never asked if I'd be around to entertain them, despite the fact that they're really only coming to see me and another friend.

The thing is, it's actually a pretty busy weekend and I've got a lot of work I should be doing. Except now I feel forced to spend time with them. It's nice to see people I haven't see in a while, but it's also a bit of a bummer. I wish they'd just asked first... because as it stands, their weekend might not be what they had in mind. And I don't want to be blamed for that.

Went to the slots for the first time last night. $60 went up in flames, but it was so awesome. I should do it more often. Cheesy

I don't even want to think about how many calories I consumed today...

Yam Tempura Roll – 10 pc.
Chicken Teriyaki Roll – 3 pc.
Yam Tempura – 4 pc.
Broccoli Tempura – 3 pc.
Spring Roll – 2 pc.
BBQ Pork Bun – 1 pc.
Deep-Fried Chicken Dumpling – 3 pc.
Chicken Skewer – 1.5 pc.
Mango Chicken Tempura – 1 pc.
Sesame Ball – 1 pc.
Green Tea Ice Cream – 1 pc.

(... although I actually do. Tongue)

I don't think you should worry about it. I ripped my aunt a new one on Facebook for railing against marriage equality.

I guess Mississauga is important enough to the Liberals in the next federal election that Justin Trudeau showed up out of the blue at our local Canada Day parade. I was sitting there watching and next thing you know my uncle says "here comes Justin." I thought it must be a joke. But sure enough, there he was walking along the sidelines shaking hands. I got in a handshake too.

I'm such a n00b, but I actually really appreciate that out of all the places he could be in the country on Canada Day, he chose to walk down our Main Street just seconds away from my family's home. It won't be enough to woo me, but it does soften me just a little... Cheesy

Was it overbearing with a pungent aftertaste? Potentially like a beer I once tried called Wolfentoad?

I'm coming in here with a big family problem I don't want to talk about. Don't know what I expect, but I needed to say something. Send warm feels. I need 'em. Sad

So, I just moved to Vancouver for school. The avatar change is jarring, but it is what it is. I'm already loving the city.

Oh gosh, I'm sorry it didn't go smoothly. Hopefully you guys aren't given too much trouble.

As for me... I have a gorgeous view of downtown Vancouver in my lovely 300 square foot studio. I've been sleeping in a nest of blankets on the ground. Hopefully my mattress arrives soon. But I have wonderful plans for the place. I really love this unit though. Great location. Vancouver is amazing so far.

I had fish and chips for the first time in ages. Enough calories for the whole day in one meal, ugh. But they were so good...

Sh!t in my family keeps getting more and more real. I'd appreciate prayers, thoughts, whatever. I'm feeling pretty down in the dumps. Also... I could use a friend, as pathetic as that sounds, so if anyone ever wants to shoot me a message... that'd be nice.

I have kind of an understanding with this girl I like; she likes me too, but we're not 'together' (yet) because we want to see if our feelings will stay (or, since they'll inevitably cool and change since that's what feelings do, if we'll still want to commit to each other regardless then). I'm happy with the situation, although a little nervous about the future, especially if our feelings don't cool and change in the same direction or at the same time.

So are you guys going on dates and doing fun things together at least? Because sitting on your feelings and doing nothing will probably yield an end result of, well... nothing. Although you may not be officially together, I hope you'll both operate as if that's something you'd be exciting to work towards. Now's the time to have fun! Smiley

I'm making an entire Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow by myself. I can barely cook Alphaghetti.

It was absolutely perfect. I'll post pics when I get off the SkyTrain. I am so surprised how flawlessly it went and how good it was. I think I even one-upped my mom, which is a cocky thing to say, but whatevs. Tongue
I can't believe I did it.

So here's my Thanksgiving story! Since I was just cooking for me and Tommy, I decided a full bird was impractical, so I got a 1.5 kg turkey breast roast instead. Saved a lot of time...

Unfortunately, it meant the stuffing couldn't actually be "stuffing" in the literal sense, so I made it in a slow cooker. I used whole wheat bread and apple cinnamon bread. I added a bunch of spices, as well as apple, walnuts, and craisins. It was probably my favourite thing from the meal.

I also made these candied carrots that were unlike anything I've ever had before. They were roasted in the oven with olive oil, maple syrup, honey, and coriander. After roasting, I tossed them with sesame seeds, chopped tarragon, and pomegranate seeds.

I boiled up some beans (boring) for another vegetable.

The mashed potatoes were a garlic mash, one-fourth sweet potato and three-fourths russets. I added chives and sour cream. They were so good, but I had to make them a little ahead of time to get everything done, and heating them in the oven before dinner kinda changed the texture... oh well!

I also had cranberry sauce from a can and packaged gravy that I spiced up with white wine and drippings. Shortcuts are sometimes worth it, and honestly, the gravy was so good that it didn't even matter. All in all, the meal was a big success!

Sadly didn't get a picture of the pumpkin pie, but it was a store-bought shortcut, so I don't have anything to brag about on that front anyway. I couldn't have made a better pie anyway... t'was fantastic.

And then we lounged around in our food-comas for a couple hours. Tongue

Anyway, yeah! Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends! Smiley Smiley Smiley

Y'all are more than welcome any time you're in Vancouver!

And I'm sorry to hear about your loss, Classic Conservative. 91 is a good long life, but it's never easy to say goodbye. Hope your family is doing okay.

Why is Introduction to Russian so high on your list? My experience in language intro courses is that you don't learn very much so they're not of much value down the line... and since you seem so interested in the other courses... well... it's not my place to say, but... yeah.
