Sorry to veer back, but as a Federalist who voted for DemPGH and knows a bit of what has been going on behind the scenes, I might as well offer my two cents as well.
No one has mentioned the consolidation debate's impact on our party, and I think it's important to look at our troubles in that context. Things fell apart during Duke's first term partly because the leadership and the members were split on consolidation. With Labor united on the issue, we were obviously the natural foil... but we refused to do anything to organize against it because the politics of undermining our president and chairman were difficult to navigate. Before that, we had always had huge problems, but we were at least able to compete in the elections. The consolidation debate was sort of the catalyst that brought a lot of issues to a head, and we're still suffering for it.
I think there's a decent amount of Federalist support for DemPGH because, to be frank, at least we can trust that he'll be what he says, and what he says isn't especially unreasonable. One of the main reasons I didn't vote for SirNick is because it has seemed all through this campaign that he is blatantly pandering for Federalist support. I've been wondering back and forth whether I made the right choice, but his vote for Deus (against his word to bore) is the quintessential example of trying to win votes on the right. I understand the strategy, but I just didn't want to vote for that this time around.
DemPGH, on the other hand, is not all that unreasonable and has shown that he can push back against the Labor establishment on issues like consolidation. If he operates as president the way someone like Nix operated as senator, we're in fine shape. DemPGH and I have also spoken very candidly, and I'm convinced that a vote for him will not turn out to have been a vote for Adam Griffin whispering in his ear. All in all, DemPGH is a safe candidate. I've been longing to be able to ignore party BS and vote for a candidate based on his individual merits for a long time. Now I have the chance. Do we disagree on key issues? Sure, but it's a game and the issues don't really matter all that much. What matters is having someone you can work with without wanting to blow your brains out. I'm not saying SirNick would be bad; I'm just saying that I know I could work with DemPGH.
Also, Talleyrand brought up my name for president. Thank you, but do you see the mess in this thread? No way would I want to jump into this. Managing the party is a big pain in the ass too, which is why I've pretty much washed my hands of it unless Yankee really needs a favour. Look... This will sound selfish, but at this point, I don't know if I really care that much about any of the parties. They just build a culture of animosity that's counterproductive when it comes to actually governing. Whatever happens to the Federalist Party, I know that I'll still be good at GOTV when I need it. So... Why get myself into the job of helping manage the party when I know that it always makes me even more frustrated and awful than I already am?
