Agreed on the second part, but Le Pen represents almost everything that is wrong with the existing French state - the centralisation, the hostility to parliamentarianism and LE STRONG (WO)MAN schtick, the economic statism, the quasi-state atheism (religion being replaced by THR GTEAT NATION), one size fits all citizenship etc. Certainly not a sensible thing for a boilerplate American conservative like yourself to support.

I'm actually rather fond of the quasi-dirigisme and "one side fits all citizenship." The latter is one of my favorite things about France; much preferable to the 24/7/365 low-intensity race war we have in America.

Hostility to parliamentarianism/strongmanism seems like an inevitable outcome of a presidential system. Hostility to parliamentarianism has been a defining feature of the Obama administration, though instead of strong-manism, we got technocracy.

America has a 24/7 "low intensity race war"? Your evidence for that tremendously ridiculous statement?

Isn't LePen a fascist, or at least worryingly close to one?
