The fact that the LDS still has this big of a role in Utah politics is terrifying.

It is terrifying, but on the other hand, it is Utah. Half the population is Mormon. Though the LDS Church has expressed their opposition to more bills this session than any session during my lifetime. The fact that they feel the need to publicly express opposition means that legislators aren't doing what they want as much as they used to.

For which diseases? Because with several states not every disease that can be treated with weed is legal to prescribe someone to.

Well, there's two bills. The less expansive one (which also passed, as an attempt to derail the other one), prescribes specific terminal diseases and seizures, while the "true" medical marijuana bill allowed specific kinds of doctors (the chronic pain guys, for example) to prescribe marijuana for a larger number of diseases.

I'm not sure on what exact diseases, but chronic pain, terminal, and seizure-related diseases are included in the more expansive bill.

Also, the bill has now passed the seconding reading with the same numbers as the first vote. One more vote, and it goes on to the House, which should pass it, and then to the Governor, who has said he'll sign it.

Senate passed the bill 17-12 a few hours ago on the final vote, now on to the House. And if what I've been hearing (and saying) is right, it'll breeze through.
