So would I, if I were a Senator. Has more to do with the original Libya scandal than the manufactured second one (the decision to interfere in the civil war in 2011 was really, really stupid and Rice was the one who convinced Obama to do it; the Obama administration's response to the 2012 embassy attack seems to be pretty adequate to me), but Rice is one of my least favorite Obama advisors.

Agreed in full. The Libyan intervention was one of the worst Presidential decisions in recent memory (worse than Afghanistan, surely; worse than Iraq, possibly). Someone who planned that should be nowhere near power.

Are you joking? The Libyan intervention was one of the best (military-based) decisions Obama has done. It went relatively smoothly, the country is more stable than both Iraq and Afghanistan, and Libya is very close to being back on it's feet and genuinely democratic, unlike the other two.

But the United Nations Security Council requested that NATO establish a no-fly zone over Libya and the United States was fulfilling its NATO requirements as per the Security Council's request...how could this possibly be illegal?  I don't understand what you're talking about.

How can a mutual defense treaty obligate a country to make war against a country that has not attacked any of the member nations?

Didn't Gaddafi bomb a US military base in Germany? That could count.

Were all the members of the UN required to fight in Libya? Or is the US special in some way?

UK, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Norway, and several others participated in Libya, so, no, not really.

Also, the presumption of people referring to this as "US" action in Libya is very disrespectful to our NATO allies.

Actually, Germany did not. (Although we should have.)

I have to say that it's ironic that Germany refrained from participating in fighting, while France almost eagerly jumped into the fray. Totally opposite of the stereotype.
