Let's now add to the list of places that are now more advanced than we are... Slovenia.

Slovenia is more or less a Slavic and less Catholic version of Austria, so that is not (in itself) so bad.

Meanwhile in Slovakia, over 90% voted against SSM... Why so different? Is Slovakia more religious?

There was a very low turnout in the Slovak referendum after the pro-gay/civil rights side advocated a boycott, so you can not really use the 90%+ figure to say anything in itself.

Northern Slovakia is very traditionally Catholic (see the thread about the referendum as to why).

Slovenia is only 55% Catholic now and with low church attendance.
