Do you like to put fish sticks in your mouth?

They weren't the best, but when you're a little short on time, you'll take whatever is closest and most convenient.

You sit around and watch TV for hours at a time.  Hobos have a more rigorous daily schedule than you do...  That excuse is so frakking lame, dude... no wonder you're morbidly obese... you can't even put enough effort into making up good excuses, let alone cooking or getting off your fat butt and exercising.

Bushie missing the joke was expected. This is funny.

To his credit, I don't think very many people got it. Either that, or it's just far too immature and lame of a joke for forumers to appreciate. (but hey, that's me for you) Tongue

That amount of TV watching on an Autumn weekend is only a little more than typical of a football fan who follows both college and pro.  It's not nearly as much as it might seem.

I think the vast majority of football fans I know in the US watch their own team's game plus maybe a primetime game that evening.  I don't know anyone who watches all day on both Saturday and Sunday, but then maybe my social circle is atypical.  (Or maybe there's a selection effect.  People who never leave the house on the weekend are unlikely to make as many friends, and thus I'm not friends with them.  Tongue )

Heck, Bushie isn't even just watching the games, but also the pregame coverage, isn't he?  I mean, how else do you get up to 15 hours on Sunday?  For the NFL, there are the 1pm and 4pm games, and then SNF.  That doesn't get you up to 15 hours.  Are there any college football games on Sunday as well?

I don't know, if you love football you'll watch as much as you can. I know my dad watches every single CFL game (not that hard, considering there's only 8 teams, so 4 games each weekend).

I don't know why you guys bother giving him advice. He has an addiction, he's not going to listen to you. He needs to hit "rock bottom" before he gets help. Best way to help is to push him closer to that point (no offence, Bushie, but it's the only way to save you at this point, since you don't listen to reason). Maybe it will take getting diabetes before he will change? Let's pray it's not a  heart attack or death.

Bushie sounds exactly like a drug addict, except it's not drugs he's addicted to.

BM = Bowel Movement.

I know that.  Re-read my question:

My question was NOT what BM stands for.

So "poop" is dirty language?

If so, I should use it more around these parts, because the censor man hasn't gotten around to censoring it.

Mom has one, Dad has one, and I have one.  Nothing excessive or unusual.

Surprising for your income bracket.

Cars are such wastes of money in my opinion.

How do poor people get around in the south? Surely not every poor person has a car. What about people who can't drive due to disabilities?

Growing up, my family had just one car (well 2, if you count my dad's work truck). My Mom can't drive. What would someone like her do?

The south certainly seems like a hell hole. ...

I dunno. Cars must be terribly inexpensive in Oklahoma if everyone can afford to have one.  Also, cheap gas, no mandatory insurance and hardly any restrictions on testing. Probably few rules at all.  After all, there's no public transportation right? If any of those things weren't true, there'd be a demand for it. Right?

Liability insurance is mandatory in Oklahoma.  I have full coverage.  There is public transportation in Oklahoma City, but it doesn't extend out this far.  Still, it's just a bus system.  It is so much easier and much more efficient to drive.  Walking takes time.  It takes me 20 minutes to walk a mile.  If I were to walk to a store 2 miles away (which there are none), it would take me 40 minutes to get there, plus 20 minutes or so to shop and then I would have to walk 40 minutes with those heavy bags in my hands.  That is an hour and 40 minutes of time wasted when I could get there and back in 30 minutes.  To me, the time expenditure doesn't make a lick of sense.

How far is the nearest store? I couldn't imagine living far away from any stores. What a horrible thought! I thought America was all about freedom, but living that far away is so restrictive! I would hope that any poors in Oklahoma at least live close to stores.

It takes 30 minutes to shop with driving? That's hilarious. I can pop in to the store and be back in 10 minutes. It would take me longer to drive, if I had a car, as I would have to walk to a parking space, get on to the street and find another parking space instead of shortcuts.

Indeed, cars are ridiculously expensive, and they're only going to get worse as gas prices increase. Now, I must admit gas is much more expensive in Canada than in the US, and even worse in Europe.

I am very grateful for my bicycle, as I am able to get to work in 20 minutes on it, and if it wasn't for my commute, I wouldn't get very much exercise.  The biggest downfall is biking in the winter. But to me, it's just a challenge. It's funny that Bushie was scared to drive in a little snow, when I've biked in blizzards.

No, there are no stores in suburbia, at least not within walking distance.  My suburb (which is admittedly much more upper class than Bushie's, but probably laid out similarly) has a commercial center with big box stores, chain restaurants, etc., but nobody lives in walking distance of those (and there's no sidewalks anyway, so it would be pretty dangerous to walk).  Everyone lives in either formal subdivisions or blocks of streets.  You can walk or bike to a friend's house, but anything more requires a car.

There may be some apartments in Jackson where artsy hippie white people live that don't necessarily require a car, but I bet almost all of them have one.  There may be some of the absolute poorest in the slums who don't own a car and rely on family members and neighbors, but there's enough cars worth like $1000 that most poor households have at least 1.

No sidewalks? Aren't suburbs supposed to be kid friendly? Or do southern kids just play video games all day? I suppose our suburbs are similar (the outer ones anyways), but I've never lived in one. I like being a 20 minute bike ride from work, and being able to walk to the store, and take my daughter to a nearby park to play in the playground. Hell, even Walmart is within walking distance. (which is unfortunate, because I hate the place, but have been sucked in too often).

I'm sorry to de-rail this thread, Duke. But I am genuinely interested in how dystopic the South is.

I bet you Bushie's making this whole thing up to please us. Just as we were starting to complain about him not having a lady in his life, he gets a lady in his life? I call shenanigans!

Conversation with Allison is over for the night.  We're in the process of looking at the calendar for the first date.  I grew up believing the man goes to the lady for the first date.  There is no date for the date, yet, and she would have let me know tonight, but her phone was dying.  I believe it will be sometime soon!

Does this sound bad to anyone else? As in, she's making excuses, etc?

Don't play dumb, Mr. Morden. Why would he need the mother's permission? Women are 2nd class citizens in the great state of Oklahoma! Might as well be asking the pet goldfishes permission in Bushies view.

Now you know that's not true.  I will ask both, but in the old fashioned traditions, the girl's father is giving his consent to hand over care of his baby girl to another man.  We plan to bring back old fashioned traditions.  They are generally so much better than today's crap.

Yes, the old fashioned tradition of treating women as chattle is certainly so much better than today's equality crap!

I came here to ask the same question.

Judging from both of their facebook pages, it's clear who is more interested in who.

*Allison posted a picture of the both of them with the word "friendship" below. Only friends?
*Bushie mentioned 'love' in his fb status, nothing like that from her
*Changing his picture to a picture of her. She has not done the same.

These are just a few signs of who is more interested than the other. This is a bad sign, folks.

I don't doubt she likes you, Bushie (in fact, she clearly likes you more than most women would like a guy after one date)- it's just obvious from facebook that you're more into this than her.
