He still gets to have his day in court, though. If he doesn't want to resign then why can't we let the process play itself out?

He'll certainly not be hurting anyone else right now. I say let him have his day in court.

He can have his day in court after he resigns.

Jeez, Cuomo needs to go. What will it actually take before he caves?

Impeachment, or the state (and perhaps federal) party making it clear that his remaining in office is untenable.

People should start asking Cuomo allies why they don’t want New York to have a woman governor.

He's dead.

Update: only seems to be the Long Island delegation

Still enough for him to go. What are they waiting for?

Meh.

Schumer and Gillibrand are doing it. Why can’t she or Biden?

I really do think it's odd. If Biden, Harris, and Pelosi all made a joint statement calling for his resignation, he would basically have no choice but to resign. I really don't know why national Democrats aren't calling for his resignation, what is the political calculus here?

Yeah, it's disappointing. My guess is they want to let this play out within New York state because national Democrats don't want more public spotlight on Cuomo just after the Rescue package was passed. Schumer and Gillibrand had to say something as New Yorkers.

I think if they feel they can get him out (and I think they can with national pressure) they should do it as quickly as possible and move on.

That language has been thankfully deleted from the article, but the mere idea is still absurd and disgusting.

My prediction on Cuomo is that (A) he will not be removed from office and (B) will not resign until such time when the Democrats can assure themselves that a New York City Democrat will be the next Governor.

An early Cuomo resignation would create an incumbent NY Democratic Governor from Syracuse.  It was tough enough for the upstate Gillibrand to be elected in her own right; it'll be harder than ever to bounce NY's first Female Governor in a primary.  There is Bill DeBlasio, there are a number of Representatives facing the loss of their seats through reapportionment (including Sandy Cortez, lol), there is Letitia James, and there are other NYC pols who would like to be Governor.  Hochul is not one of them.  Cuomo will, of course, not run again, and once he announces that he will not run again there will be lessened pressure for him to quit.  It is also somewhat doubtful that he could actually be removed:

Quote
The court for the trial of impeachments shall be composed of the president of the senate, the senators, or the major part of them, and the judges of the court of appeals, or the major part of them. On the trial of an impeachment against the governor or lieutenant-governor, neither the lieutenant-governor nor the temporary president of the senate shall act as a member of the court. No judicial officer shall exercise his or her office after articles of impeachment against him or her shall have been preferred to the senate, until he or she shall have been acquitted. Before the trial of an impeachment, the members of the court shall take an oath or affirmation truly and impartially to try the impeachment according to the evidence, and no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two-thirds of the members present.

Do the math.  Cuomo COULD be removed if impeached, but 2/3 of this crowd is not a slam dunk.  NY is one of the bigger "political hack" states in the Nation.  These Judges in this Court of Impeachment are all political hacks, and they are mostly Democratic.  It could get worse for Cuomo, but lots of people have their Eyes on the Prize of the Governor's Mansion at this time; a prize that wasn't up for grabs until Cuomo's foibles came to light.

Doesn’t the Senate already have 2/3 of its members calling for him to go in some form? The real obstacle is the Assembly, to my knowledge.

What will Carl Heastie do about it? And will there be a stronger primary challenge?

Chris Cuomo worked on his PR response with his aids. Embarrassing that CNN still employs him.

Furthermore it's beyond disappointing Chris drafting statements for his brother. I actually liked him at CNN for while, but I'm truly embarrassed to ever have spoken in favor of either. Andrew is a scumbag with the same mafia boss attitude than Trump.

That's a pretty harsh statement for drafting statements to help out his brother, prior to this report coming out.

This is different from whether he should be fired. But he's not even in the same ballpark as Trump.

If in some third world country a report came out about a powerful politician being secretly advised by his journalist brother, who was still reporting on him on an influential network, most people here would likely consider that laughably corrupt.

I do not see why Cuomo should go.  If he is really guilty of these allegations let it be proved in a court of law.  If he is found guilty then sure he should go.  All we have so far is a report by an AG who herself want to run for governor and would politically benefit from Cuomo leaving office.

What part(s) of the report, specifically, do you believe are not accurate?

Get it done asap!

Just another week or so before they can officially start the process.

Andrew Cuomo won't lose his pension, he is gonna go as far as impeachment, as soon as he is stripped of he his power anyways after impeachment he is gonna resign before the Trial in the Senate be sure of that

He may still be impeached after he resigns - just look at Trump.

I read somewhere this is going to take months to get to a vote. I still think they need to find a provable crime somewhere, or a coverup with Cuomo's fingerprints all over it of the nursing home scandal.

Oh here is one squib speculating on the time line.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/cuomo-impeachment-process-could-take-months-legislators-warn-n1275943

The whole party has openly abandoned him at this point. Regardless of what one thinks the standard should be, how do you see him turning this around?

Arrest would be epic. Lmao.

Also, the so called protesters kinda remind me of Trump's presidential announcement in 2015, where most of the attendends were paid. I could see them being paid as well.

I can see that too, but I think it’s much less likely than it was for Trump. He’s had 10 years to build up a base that will never abandon him no matter how tiny, just like Nixon.

Cuomo Secretary Melissa DeRosa has resigned.

Just feels like a matter of "when" at this point.

Good riddance!

Quick, impeach him before he leaves and convict him while he’s out of office.

I don’t really like Kathy Hochul as a politician, but I’m of course pleased for our first woman governor and the first governor from upstate in a century.

Glad to see a Democrat in the Governor's Mansion for the first time in 10 years. Long overdue!

The thing is that all Democratic governors since Pataki left in 2006 kinda screwed up.
The only elected democratic governor of New York post WWII who left as a result of retirement, as opposed to losing reelection or resigning in disgrace, was Hugh Carey, who left office way back in 1983

Also the last one to quit after two terms!

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that this affair has also damaged my opinion of Carl Heastie.

Good. The HRC is very establishment-y but at least it’s not so to that degree.
