For the second time in a row, Al Smith was able to fight off a challenge from a more liberal member of the party (the benefits of incumbency balancing out the travails of unpopularity), and for the second time he was forced to choose another liberal as his running mate. This time, however, they were both relatives of BMP legends - "FDR" and "Young Bob" - rather than second-tier party leaders (Johnson and Borah). Bob, for his part, is moping around the Midwest saying that Al doesn't hate poor people, honest, whereas Al is calling Bob nasty names behind his back and reminding the people that he still opposes Prohibition, all while claiming that "prosperity is just around the corner" or some canard.

A step to the right is Herbert Hoover, who supports some government intervention to fix the economy, but "let's not go overboard here, I don't want the poors getting any money." For his VP, he has chosen powerful Senator Jim Watson (believed by many to have only been chosen because he basically controls the swing state of Indiana), a disciple of Joseph G. Cannon who is generally agreed to be batsh**t insane and sometimes rips his clothes off during speeches. Also he doesn't like black people that much.

Thirdly and most socialistically is the Little Flower of New York, known to people who don't want to type out his full name as FLG. He and Huey Long (chosen mostly to shut the latter up - the two hate each other with a burning passion, as Long tends to do with anyone who crosses him in any way) are running on the traditional PA/FLP/WP/LGBT principles of more unions, vastly increased welfare and public works programs, the repeal of Prohibition, and maybe some women's suffrage if they get enough votes (I'm frankly surprised it hasn't happened yet).

So yeah, that's it. Maybe if FLG wins we can change the name back to the People's Alliance.

Fun fact FLG will be our first ethnically Jewish President, despite being a practicing Episcopalian.

And an Italian (non-Catholic Italian!? Really!?). Would he be our first of those as well?

Yep. Lapsed Catholic dad, Jewish mom.

Smith, although these current numbers aren't so encouraging at all.

Assuming the BMP will be decimated this election, I wonder where they will go from here, and whether the liberal wing will take back control. The Unionists also haven't had a good roster of candidates recently.

The BMP has a few Roosevelts left, but then again they've also got a certain gay Nazi left. 1940 will be quite fun.

But yeah, the Unionists haven't had the best judgment lately. Maybe Thomas Dewey will save them.

To date, I don't believe any president or VP has had any Italian ancestry (not simply an Italian surname). And thinking of the 2016 possibilities, with the exception of Santorum, I doubt we will soon.

Al Smith's 1/4 Italian on his dad's side.

Only on Atlas would a Workers' Party win over 50% of the vote in a three-way race, LOL.

Let's not forget the previous two Presidents were Calvin Coolidge and Al Smith.

It makes sense given that the other two parties split the right-wing vote, and it fits the historical narrative.

Time to universal health care it up in this series.

That's just the conservative part of the LaGuardia/Long agenda Wink

How large a role do you think Long will play in the administration? They're both quite authoritarian folks - I could see a JFK/LBJ-type dynamic developing.

I'll get back to you later tonight.  I have a mental template I suspect you'll enjoy Tongue  Also without spoiling anything, Alfred, this result will lead to the Unionist/Bull-Moose/ACLU stuff we talked about.

I just came.
