Kennedy/Humphrey! Guys, if Humphrey gets shot on November 22, we won't be able to run him in '68 and '72 and maybe even '64! If Kennedy gets shot, Humphrey will serve for longer! If we want true progressivism for the 1960s, we can't kill off our best guy partway through! Humphrey for Vice-President!

But seriously, if we kill HHH before his time, I'm going to be mighty pissed that y'all don't know how to utilize the real world to our advantage. This is the same thing that happened with McKinley and TR: if we had nominated TR/McKinley in 1900, as I know at least Gass wanted, TR would only have served a year as President, and we wouldn't have wanted that, would we?

We Democrats want to nominate a lightweight or a foreign-policy guy and save the big guns for later, because whoever wins this election will die on November 22, 1963, period.

I'm sorry I'm posting this so much, but I really don't want to lose Humphrey or any other great candidate, really.

AFAIK there isn't any evidence to suggest whoever wins will get assassinated....

Uh, they got assassinated IRL, so they'll get assassinated in Atlamerica too unless there's a specific thing that makes them less likely to die. For example, Lincoln didn't fight the Civil War, so nobody would want to kill him. However, McKinley didn't change anything about what he did, so he did get killed.

And Holmes, I believe that Dr. J and Lief and Gass and I (to an extent; I'm voting strategically here) are the Socialist wing of the Democratic Party. The Socialists broke up because Daniel Hoan and Darlington Hoopes were found to be homosexual lovers, which was quite scandalous at the time.

And yet FDR didn't die.  The idea that ANYONE will get assassinated regardless of circumstances makes no sense at all.  I'm sorry - none.

Let's ask Cath. Cath, how do you determine the rules for assassinations?

Does the fact that Cuba still happened provide a hint?

Indeed it does. Humphrey for Vice-President!

Which type of Cuba theorist are you?  I know several involving Cuba.

(Personally I'll agree to several being plausible enough for the purposes of conjecture as well)

I actually have no idea how much Cuba has or doesn't have to do with JFK's assassination. However, several of the same things are in place: the Cold War, Castro in Cuba, etc.

The professor I have for the History of the Vietnam War has something of a hobby of relating to us every single theory he's heard about JFK's assassination.  Most are merely amusing, but some do make you wonder...  They're good enough for TL purposes IMO most of the time.

Well, if Cuba still happens, that gives Oswald more of a motive to kill the president, whomever he may be. That's why we all need to nominate HHH for VP instead of Prez.

HHH!!!

So glad we'll get a 2-way matchup finally!

You know, it's gonna be you guys' fault when Humphrey gets shot. Y'all need to learn to think strategically about this stuff and make it so you've organized who you'll run, when, and why. If we don't nominate HHH, he'll still have at least 2 other chances, which I'm sure he'll get. If we do nominate him, he will be killed.

Y'all should nominate Humphrey. Or maybe Johnson. But probably Humphrey.

Y'all should nominate Nixon.
