This was a huge mistake on their part. Republicans were already staunchly pro-Israel and by hammering away at this point that, "Good Republicans must support Israel," you are implicitly inducing a lot of Democrats to infer, "Republicans support Israel. Therefore, supporting Israel must be a bad thing."
