Brunner was the runner-up and has the money and infrastructure to run a race.

I think that if Akin is replaced, the candidate will do more poorly than if they had won the primary outright. McCaskill would not be the favorite, but she would go down be a more respectable margin. The Akin voters would not be pleased that their man was replaced.
