He really wants to be president and kind of looks like one, the media loves that. Romeny is also intelligent and a bit more charismatic than most of the field. He wouldn't be in the position he is now if it wasn't for the 2008 primaries. A Northern Republican that reminded no one of Bush seemed to be the best bet for Republicans. So naturally it came down to him, Mr. Maverick and someone who cornered the evangelical market. Romneycare would have been something of a plus in the 2008 general, back then conservatives were not nearly so shy about their support for the individual mandate; it's their damn idea after all.
