I don't see Democrats going for a ticket with two white guys barring exceptional circumstances (IE- a popular Republican Governor switching parties, a Veep becoming a national hero.) It might be different if two white guys have a very close primary.

It also wouldn't be in Beto's interests to agree to a deal that would tie him to a guy in his mid-70s. If he wants to be on the national ticket, the way to do it is to run for President.

There may be a strategy for Biden here in announcing he'll have a running mate before the first votes of the primary. It'll encourage the rising stars of the party to spend an year proving they can be effective campaign surrogates for him.

You never know, a NH pick could come in handy. The state wasn't supposed to be close in 2016 and Trump almost won.
Jeanne Shahenn had been willing to be on Gore's list when she was in her fourth year as Governor of New Hampshire.

Bush won the state by a small margin (48.07% to 46.80%)

Given that running mates from smaller states add more to a ticket it probably would have made enough of a difference.

Enough with Senators already! What is it with Democrats picking Senators anyway?
Senators have demonstrated an ability to win statewide office, and should be familiar enough with national issues to avoid serious gaffes.

Democrats do seem to believe in the power of the federal government, so that's another facet.
