It's complicated.

Any New Jersey Republican would be vulnerable to a charismatic Democrat.

But I wonder if a loss would hurt Booker's prospects for later bids. Would some wags suggest that he should have been able to unseat Christie when an open seat emerges?

Lautenberg's also going to be 90, and while he has been collecting chits for another term for some time, I would expect the party to force him out in favor of Booker. So he would have the Senate in 2014.
