If Wallace ran against a man who despite vicious personal rivalry, had fairly similer aims (Wallace's stance on race was pure vote grabbing) he would certainly have run against RFK.

And he would have done a lot better as well

Wallace ran in 1968 to oppose Eastern Intelectuals. RFK was an Eastern Intelectual, so Wallace would have still ran.

Robert Kennedy vs. Richard Nixon vs. George Wallace could have easily went to the House. Than Bobby Kenendy would have been elected in the House.

And he in favor of segregation too, don't forget that.

But only for political purposes...

Haha. That may be, but it doesn't make it any better.

The cynicism of politicians back then is in a league all of it's own... in fact cynically using something abhorrent that you don't actually support to win votes may be morally worse than using something abhorrent that you do support to win votes.
