Tthe idea isn't exactly news... this sort of thing is only being considered (and so far that's all it's been, considered) because people keep complaining about all the speed cameras and so on... IIRC the main reason why it's being considered is for road pricing or some other idea that Darling likes the sound of.
Don't like the idea but, without putting too fine a point on it, it's not much more an invasion of privacy compared to what we have now anyway. Little game to play if you're ever driving over here; spot the speed camera. You'd be amazed.

Two questions:

1. Has anyone actually read the article?
2. Has anyone ever driven over here anyway?

2. Does riding on the bus or in other people's cars count? Smiley

If you can count all the speed cameras from where you were sitting, then, yes Grin

That sort of thing is already illegal. We have a lot (and you have to see them to believe them) of speed cameras over here.

Seems to me like a determined criminal could simply alter a license plate to make a new number, or if he's really innovative make a rotating mounting bracket with several plates on it, like James Bond maybe.

We have an absolutely huge amount of cameras over here already (you really do have to see it to believe it) and no one of a criminal nature really bothers. Just doesn't occur to them that they can be spotted pretty easily. And this wouldn't either; the media coverage has been practically non-existant.

Thats an urban myth. There are a few thousand around the country, which if you consider the totality of the British road network, is really not that many. At most, there is one every three towns around home and there is only one that I can place in Oxford.

Maybe it's just the West Midlands then Tongue
Either I'm paranoid or there's a disturbing amount here; usually new ones which are smaller and harder to spot (don't really *mind* gatso's much. Except for when they hide them behind bushes. Bastards) There's a couple just south of Shrewsbury that seem to have been put there entirely for the purposes of a police retirement fund...

Yeah, I won't be sad to see the back of West Mercia police force if they are merged away...

True but it *really* isn't worth it. People that go into that sort of thing are those irritating scally types. Round here anyway.
