TGWU (the union that represents bus drivers) officials have said they've been told that there's been explosions on three buses or explosive devices found on three buses.
No one seems to know what's going on

Well, I hope that everything resolves itself sooner rather then later, and that there are no further incidents. On behalf of my family, I offer support for Britons at this time Sad

Goodnight, Al.

Thanks Hugh. Just found out that a close relative of mine is o.k

Blair has confirmed they're terrorist attacks. He's leaving the G8 meeting for the day and going back to London.
He looked pretty upset.

Two people have been confirmed dead (not twenty people) but there may be more and an uncertain amount (possibly a couple of hundred) are injured, some seriously, one or two critically.

The remains of an explosive device have been found

Frank Gardner (Beeb's security correspondent, the one that was nearly killed a while back) says that Arab sources think it's probably the work of Al Qaeda.

Chief of the Met (Sir Ian Blair) has said that the emergency plan is in place, is working, and that the situtation is coming back under control.

All Underground services and central London bus services have been stopped.

There's not been a lot of panic; people seem to be taking it stoically.

From the Beeb's ticker:

Rescue operation confirmed in tube tunnel near King's Cross.

Islamist website carries message claiming responsibility for London attacks.

Clearly with this being the beginning of the G8 would seem to be the more obvious connection - it would appear to be a clear attempt to disrupt whatever negotiations would have gone on there.

That seems to be Government thinks

There seems to be some sort of suspension of the Commons at Westminster. Reasons unclear.

BBC Parliament says it's until Clarke makes his statement in a few minutes

* Bus in Tavistock Square
"undetermined number of fatalities" - I think this might be a question of counting body parts.

How many people usually go on the top deck of a double decker bus?

Reportedly it was a bus owned by a tourist company, so it could be more than a standard passenger bus. And even if its a standard bus, in rush hour on a busy route, buses soon fill up as anybody who uses them on a regular basis knows, so the top could fill up.

The thinking is that it's probably Al Qaeda (if so it's been "less bad" than most of their attacks) but nothing's been ruled out yet.
Very unlikely to be the work of an IRA splinter group; not their style. They go after buildings, not transport.

Some less-bad news... seems as though "only" 2 people died on the bus

I'm not surprised by Mr. Galloway's knee-jerk reaction. He is trying to make political capital out of a tragedy, and hopefully the British people will see through that.

True. I'd like to contrast what that little wretch said with the complete condemmnation of the attacks by the leaders of the East London Islamic community.

5 homes in West Yorkshire have been raided by West Yorkshire Police in connection with the bombings. One raid is still ongoing.
They've not said where in West Yorkshire yet

All the raids have been in the Beeston area of Leeds apparently.
Police say the raids are *directly* connected with the bombings
