That was the guy's username on said former forum for whatever reason. It was a reference to some crappy British sci-fi from the 1950s or something, I think. I always found him to be a right dickhead, not that that's at all relevant.

Excellent result in Berry Hill. With numbers like that Labour stand a good chance of taking the West Dean division in the County Council elections.

Dawley was a hold. Though a proper return to form in what was always Labour territory; it was lost in the first place because of car parking charges of all things. Anyways, you can probably semi-fairly compare the UKIP figure to the TAWPA one.

TAWPA was really, really, really fycking weird.

Yes... circumstances of that nature are... less than ideal as a trigger for a by-election...

Oh.

Trigger.

Sorry.

Speaking of parish councils, the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition have won a seat on Maltby Town Council, in Rotherham borough, in a two horse race with an independent.  Apparently this is the first time TUSC have ever won an election.

Whose front organisation are TUSC?

All shades of Trots are involved (including those utter charmers at the SWP), but it's mostly Millies.

Labour are an organisational mess in Hemel for some reason.

It's not another SWP ('rape is fine when committed by a senior comrade, comrades') front is it?

Another utterly lousy set of results for the Tories. Potential for the County Council elections - which matter for them more than for other parties anyway - to turn into a total trainwreck is very real.

A DC hold in Pembrokeshire, then. Credible result for Labour in that ward.

What is it with Wales and local independents?

Rurality.

Of course in Pembrokeshire the 'Independents' are no such thing and are actually just like the DC's in Italy before 1994.

Local establishment types entirely; Tories, mostly. The official Independent group has picked up more than a few power hungry councillors from other backgrounds over the years. In that respect, if no other, it's quite open.

Edit: and it isn't so much a case of not wishing to be associated with the Conservatives (as labels go it's never been a damaging one in Pembrokeshire), as pretending to be standing up for the interests of the town/group of villages and for nothing else, which always goes down well in most of Wales. Which is just a mask of course; it's all just about power.

Results (but without, you know, actual numbers) for Hurdsfield, Norden and South Heaton: all holds. Nowt for Castle yet.

A Labour councillor in Whitby is an unusual thing. Actually came pretty close to taking the CC seat (covering the whole town), which caused a mild degree of surprise to me exactly eleven seconds ago.

Not exactly a surprise, unfortunately. Idiotic choice of candidate, absolutely idiotic.

One of those being accusations of nepotism.

The by-election was caused by the resignation of the new Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire. The Labour candidate was... his wife. Who is related to several current and former councillors.

There is such a thing as scoring an own goal.

Fazeley is in the Tamworth constituency. Remarkably nondescript piece of suburbia, actually.

The Nottingham Labour Party is well organised these days, but that - the margin rather than the result as such - is still a shock. Wonder whether the Tories made a serious error regarding candidate selection?

Circumstances of the Woolston by-election were pretty awful for Labour so a lousy result isn't exactly a surprise...
