Councillor Taylor spoke today at a rally in the Gawther ward. He defended the corporation's record on housing, claiming that the slow rate of construction was entirely the fault of central government restrictions and its failure to designate a New Town. Cllr. Taylor noted that the quality of the new houses at the Hellsby Estate would be of a superior quality to those built in other major cities. The council, he said, had been careful to stick to traditional building methods. Councillor Hockley, also at the rally, spoke on behalf of the MSP-controlled PWC of which he is a junior member. Cllr. Hockley argued that the PWC - and thus the MSP - had big plans for the city and that the Lombardi plan for comprehensive redevelopment in the older parts of Stovesby remained at the core of the committees plans for the future. Cllr. Hockley's speech was generally better received than that of Cllr. Taylor; the Stovesby Star noted a 'real enthusiasm for our city' and contrasted this with the 'tired ramblings' of Cllr. Taylor.
