Every US Presidential candidate kisses Israel's butt.  I know there is a huge Jewish voting block in play, but aside from that what exactly does Israel do for us?  Seriously ... there have been cases (Jonathan Pollard) of Israel even spying on the US so why exactly do we flop over backwards to support them?

The problem I have with this forum is youth and inexperience does not prevent the majority of posters from posting all kinds of nonsense.  Seriously an entire page of posts and no one answered your question that has a very simple and obvious answer... MONEY.

It is a well known fact that Israel has run one of the most powerful cash rich lobbies in DC.  Corporate interests seem to dominate the very top of the money league table these days but I certainly remember a time when AIPAC was consistently in the top five in terms of influence.

It is very telling that even on a forum filled with supposedly knowledgeable fans of politics not a single person mentioned AIPAC influence.  They have done their job well.

Another thing I find irritating is the inane prediction maps.  The predictions made by the talking heads on cable television are bad enough and a lot of those people actually worked on capitol hill or ran for office.  The predictions and maps by teenagers are even worse.

I really wonder how people cook up those maps.  I mean no one in this thread mentioned that Florida is the only swing state with a large Jewish population.  If you want to know why the endless situations in the Middle East and Cuba continue decades after they should have been settled Florida has to factor into your explanation.

Jews are not a "huge voting block."  First of all they are not a "huge" percentage of the population.  You are talking about something like 2% of the population.  As I said the only place at least on a Presidential level where I see Jews holding elevated levels of electoral college sway is in Florida.

Of course for money everyone wants to tap into the New York Jewish population.  My understanding is New York is the largest Jewish population center in the world... including Israel.  So Israel pandering seems like a natural thing to do when asking for donations.

I have to say though not all Jews are rabidly proIsrael.  Heck even a large chunk of Israelis are not rabidly proIsrael.   A lot of them would be perfectly happy making compromises that an American politician could never voice for fear of being labeled as an Israel hater.  It's comical to watch Romney and the Republicans say Obama has thrown Israel under the bus... Then the Israeli defense minister comes out hours later and says Obama has been the best friend to Israel bar none.  It's happened so many times now I simply don't understand why the American public won't get it's head out of it's collective @$$ and just deal with the Palastinian and Israeli people who want peace and forget all the politicians, extremists, and lobbyists.

To be fair, my comment about "a huge Jewish voting block" was meant to be sarcastic.

Sorry about that.  My bad.  I was just shell shocked that after you asked a perfectly good question that a lot of us should be asking ourselves you were only met with very bizarre answers.  As with most things in politics, just follow the money.  The proIsrael lobby has been pumping millions of dollars into the American political system for a solid half century.  That kind of money buys a lot of bipartisan mindless devotion in DC.

Israel has the most powerful military in the Middle East (except possibly Turkey) and has nuclear weapons, so the argument about abandoning Israel is frankly ridiculous.

I'm sure he concurs with your assessment.  He was probably just inoculating himself against the "You hate Israel" crowd.
