How long until this stuff permanently ruptures the Democratic coalition? Jews, Asians, Indians, 1/2 of Hispanics will defect to the GOP whenever one of these lefties gets the nomination. You can see friction coming in 2028.

Israel/Palestine will not rupture the Democratic coalition. Reparations very well could, though.
neither will to any measurable extent

Some of it depends on who the GOP puts forth after Trump and that's really a wildcard at the moment. If Jews defected to the GOP over Israel I bet a lot of donors would pound home the idea of colleges ending standardized tests, which in turn would make Asian voters switch sides too.

What the hell is happening in America?

Here's a terrible terrible hot take.

These kids, especially the Gen Z kids are not being " open minded ". They're stuck on their phones and social media all the damn time, and so they soak up all of this nonsense, without ironically using their critical thinking skills.... if they had any at all.

And what do I mean by that ? For the vast majority of college students, they can just bullcrap their way through the general education majors.

Not everyone is going to get a degree from a prestigious liberal arts University. It's probably going to be more like Boise State.

This isn't free speech, this is a threat that will result in prison time if the person is actually from here (aka not a Russian troll).

Academia is overdue for a reckoning and yes they need to be forced to bend their knee . Some stuff that can be done

1. Cut of all funding to university programs that promote this type of nonsense in the classroom and in research

2. Make it clear that super low Admin-Student ratio is unacceptable and they will lose funding if they don’t reduce their admin staff . You can also ban dei as that would force them to reduce their admin staff too

3. Schools/programs that funds or recognizes organizations should have their funding cut

4. Enforce immigration laws and cancel student visas of international students who went to these pro Hamas protests

5. Obviously expel students who behave in this deplorable manner

If this doenst work then simply only fund degree programs that are actually useful in the job market . So no student loans or scholarships for degrees that don’t fit in that criteria

This is extremely authoritarian. It makes sense why you support DeSantis. Lucky for everybody else, America isn't a fascist dystopia (yet) and your policies will not be enacted.

The way academia has been behaving the past Month is a complete mask off moment and yes hopefully every red state governor implements these proposals . Doing so would bring such a needed reckoning and as you can see in this thread , it’s getting support from many liberals like Leif , Mongoose , S019 , Frodo as well so the fact is academia is losing the support they had from liberals too cause this was yes a mask off moment .

When mask off moments happen, it causes reckonings because that yes causes institutions to lose the trust they once had and yes if you are an institution that relies on taxpayer funding then yes that is important.

Yes, the gender studies/critical race theory majors are a complete waste of time and money. They are not as useful as political science (which is common as a path to law or another graduate degree). The DEI bureaucracy also needs to end, no taxpayers should pay for this junk and students don't need to take out additional loans to support it. Expelling those on student visas who support Hamas would be popular with 70% of American's but the Dems Ivy League elite will bitch about it.

It’s very unlikely that we have still have publicly-funded university humanities and social sciences programs within the next decade, even in liberal blue states. At a certain point it becomes impossible to defend spending tax dollars on this stuff. Unfortunately, the professors and admins, by so thoroughly politicizing themselves and prioritizing activism over real scholarship and pedagogy, have left state governments with little choice.

I sort of wonder if some state will make moves on this after the elections next week. Most of this stuff is complete junk, no one should be paying the salaries of those professors or giving students any loans to take those classes. A lot of Dems at elite schools underestimate how many moderate Jews, Asians and Hispanics would defect to a post Trump GOP. You see the outlines of it in Youngkin, Kemp, Ciattarelli and Zeldin's coalitions. Against an antisemitic Dem, the GOP would have a real chance in a lot of states it has been completely dead in since 1988.

Some of us have been raising the alarm on this for years, just saying...

“If universities don’t get a blank check from taxpayers , it’s a violation of academic freedom” . The level of entitlement was gross and that type of entitlement should have brought a reckoning long before things got this bad but no having taxpayers subsidize university departments that literally do nothing to advance students careers (like ethnic and gender studies) was essential in maintaining academic freedom .

This argument was always beyond ridiculous and red state governors should start passing reforms changing this and should do it now . Youngkin should have also run the Virginia midterms on getting enough support to get these reforms passed as well but sadly decided not too.

If Republicans are serious and want to do a real cleanup of our elite institutions, they should work with moderate Dems on legislation. Trust me, there are plenty of left-leaning people who have simply had it with this Che Guevara junk happening at taxpayer funded schools.

They've IDed and arrested a suspect in the Cornell posts and it's a student:

He apparently was a security guard at the university too. Yikes.

It does feel like this might have been more a case of a depressed kid more than anything but it is still extremely alarming.
