It's second figure is why won't even try to work with Republicans even at the local level anymore. Trump has diseased the GOP from top to bottom. No longer a problem with Trump. It's a problem that will stay with the Republican Party long after he's gone.

While I think the Trumpolonium label has some accuracy, this wasn't some change in the base nature of the GOP. At most, it was a change in how they acted in public. It was more like a phase change, where a crystal lands in a super-cooled liquid and rapidly catalyzes crystallization of the whole thing. Trump dis not change the GOP. He just revealed it.
