Why shouldn't the internet be nationalized?

American taxpayers built the internet. Dropped 400 billion for infrastructure that the private companies never bothered to finish. Why should we let them own it and restrict it?

We shouldn't, but I'm not sure that it should be directly run by the Feds either. Turn it into a utility, and let municipalities and states handle it. (And smack down greedy corporate meddling to wreck it so that they can profit later as hard as possible.)
