Pushing an impeachment resolution before the conclusion of Mueller's investigation makes it look blatantly political and hurts the case of any similar resolution in the future.

Agree. Jumping the gun will only let Republicans conflate an impeachment attempt of Trump after genuine crimes are revealed with the bogus one earlier. Be patient and let Mueller finish his job.

While I certainly hope that Mueller's investigation nails Trump's scalp to the proverbial wall, and agree that politically it's very unlikely to succeed, I still can't bring myself to oppose this.

Let the politicians currently in office violate their own oaths by refusing to remove a man who has defecated on the Constitution and traditions of our Republic. Get Trump's violations of the Emoluments Clause out in the bright light where everyone is forced to acknowledge it.

We cannot let fear of deplorables being deplorable stop us from doing what is right. Trump could be raping schoolgirls like Moore did and the GOP would still not impeach him. He could be genetically and cryptographically proven to be a Russian deep-cover mole who handed our nuclear secrets to the Kremlin and they'd still whine that impeachment was political.

Here's a map of the vote:

Dark Blue - Republican against moving forward
Dark Red - Democrat in favor of moving forward
Medium Red - Democrat present
Light Red - Democrat against moving forward

White - vacant
Tan - Democrat no vote
Light blue-grey - Republican no vote

More realistically:
Light Red - Democrat against moving forward and 2018 Justice Democrat Target

Yep. I'm planning on spending a lot of time trying to get Dems to win in 2018, but even more I would love to see DeGette primaried and will work as hard as I can to make that happen. (Not voting for her in the general if we can't get rid of her will be guilt free, because if it's a very safe seat.)

That would only be at all true if there were no reasons for impeachment other than those Mueller is investigating. Trump has violated the Constitution and violated his oath of office and is grossly unfit to serve. There is no requirement that Congress wait on any other process - they impeach the President at their pleasure. That the GOP members have failed their own oaths is on them (and grounds for their removal by all available legal means), it does not change the fact that the Republicans and their so-called President are a threat to national security.

It's unfortunate that the process of impeachment has been such a partisan tool throughout our country's history. It was one in the days of Andrew Johnson, during Bill Clinton's presidency, and it is one now. My belief is that any impeachment proceedings against Trump would be justified only if there is clear proof (as provided by the investigation), that he broke his oath of office and violated the Constitution. Obstruction of justice would fall within this category. However, until that proof arises, there isn't any valid basis to remove Trump besides the condemnation for the statements he has made, and the policy measures that he has pursued. Impeachment needs to be for clear crimes that threaten the security of this country, not for petty political disagreements.
