Well, he could've just thrown the whole election away.

Sanity can hope this is true.

Libertarian Mark Wicks has been polling relatively well. While he's obviously not going to win, enough potential GOP voters choosing him instead of this:

will let Quist win.

I read on WaPo the other day about 62% of returns thus far were early ballots, over 280,000 of them. If that is indeed true, Quist has ever so slight a chance to no chance. Out of the 648,764 registered voters in 2016 only 293,548 of them voted and Montana is a heavily lean R state. Gianforte will probably take office and face a censure within his first week. As Trump would say, SAD!

I think you're right (though I wish you weren't).

He apologized in his victory speech. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rHX023p-hk He has to appear before June 7 and will receive a $500 fine and/or 6 months jail time. He will probably plead out and the judge will give him the fine since a report I read said he was a Gianforte backer anyway, good ol' boys network and all. The Congress should censure him.

This just drives home how broken the US justice system is. Multimillionaire assault reporter, gets elected to Congress, has to pay $500 fine. Just sick.

At the least we should go to the Finnish system, where fines like this are based on a percentage of your disposable income, so that the rich can't laugh them off.
