How are Canada and the U.S the farthest apart but the closest geography and (on the surface) culturally?

Most of Canada is like a super-duper blue state politically. 

Imagine 80% of the population living in the Northeast or the West Coast.

Not only that but Canada's white working class isn't really that culturally conservative or anti-immigrant.  I suppose it's similar to New England or the West Coast of the US in that sense.

It's trended Conservative though.

Sikhs also (most likely) went NDP in the last provincial election in Ontario.

South Asians in Australia seem more similar to South Asian Americans (mostly Hindu, most highly educated migrant group in Australia) than to South Asian Canadians or Britons.
