For those defending the c-word, what's the difference between it and the n-word?
As far as I know, the "c-word" refers to a part of the body while the "n-word" refers to the enslavement of an entire race with the implication that they are inferior. The former doesn't have the historical connotations of the latter. I'm not really sure the two comparable at all besides their taboo status.
What's the difference between calling someone a "c-word" or calling them an "ass"? What about "c-word" versus "bitch," which is largely regarded as a lesser insult these days?
Oh come on, it's a derogatory term for a class of people, not just a part of the body. The implications of usage depend on context, just like with the n-word. Misogynistic connotations are just as bad as historical racial connotations, the same violence and oppression and assertion of inferiority is involved, and let's not pretend it's all historical, either.
As for the c-word vs. bitch, it's just a matter of degree. One is considered worse than the other.
You clearly care about this a lot more than I do.
To be honest, I'm not too offended by either word but then again I suppose I wouldn't fit into either. That being said, I'd be more apt to call someone a "c-word" than an "n-word" which I don't believe I would ever call someone.
Is there something that specifically makes the "c-word" worse than "bitch"? I don't know enough about the history of either word.
It may be naive but I'm of the opinion that words are words. They'll only hurt or offend you if you let them.
Of course, this isn't in reference to the original point of this thread. The joke was not very funny and tasteless which can be mutually exclusive.
