This leaves D1 with 22 and D2 with 27.

For what it's worth, MD should be with either PA or NY.

Politically, it would shape out like this, I think.

Ernest 1:
District 1- Lean Left
District 2- Tossup
District 3- Tossup
District 4- Solid Right
District 5- Lean Right

Hughento 1:
District 1- Lean Left
District 2- Lean Left
District 3- Solid Left
District 4- Solid Right
District 5- Solid Right

Ernest 2:
District 1- Lean Left
District 2- Tossup
District 3- Solid Right
District 4- Tossup
District 5- Lean Left

Districts ordered by number of states.

Are you anticipating people will move depending what plan is chosen?  District 2 is identical under these two plans.

BTW, based on what I've seen, any plan that isn't going to have an excess of gerryandering is going to have to use the Northeast plus DC and MD to form Districts 1 and 2 and use the other 38 States to form Distrcts 3, 4, and 5.

Sorry, Ernest 1 would be tossup, while Ernest 2 and Hughento 1 lean Left.

It does not matter where South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas go.  For aesthetic purposes, I think these states should go into whatever district North Dakota goes to.

Those states aside, the only difference between Phils and Akno's plans are an excange of Ohio/West Virginia for Virginia between the current D3 and D2.  Phil's map is closer to the current map, therefore I find it preferable.

What do you have against change Smiley

You ARE a liberal, you know, people who want to change things.

Well, NickG is a liberal, too, and this is what he said (which I tend to agree with):

With redistricting every four months now, I feel like it is more important than ever to make adjustments to the existing map, rather than drawing new maps from scratch.  It's bad enough that Senators have to run in a different district in every election; we should make this as easy as possible for them while keeping the populations even.

No Senators are from Virginia, Ohio, or West Virginia, so it's not like they have to change what district they run in, for the most part. I even think the party breakdown is similar, so not that much changes with my map.
