sounds brave, was all of Scotland single-member wards then?

Yes. Elections for the Districts were held in 1974, 1977, 1980, 1984, 1988 and 1992.

LD are yellow or orange? I never remember.

I use 'gold' for the Lib Dems and a 'cream' colour for the SNP.

Which one is the darkest?

Liberals.

Grey is for Independents, Burgundy is for the various Independent Labour/Militant/Trots that picked up seats in 1992.

By the way, Tory councillors elected by fptp in Motherwell and Hamilton? I know 1992 was a good year for them, but, I wouldn't have expected that. Was that normal or freak results in a set of local elections with many of them? (Shard End in Birmingham is a good example; was a consistently safe ward even during the 2005-2010 parliament, but was lost in 1992).

In Hamilton, the 'blue area' (Ferniegair and Low Waters) roughly corresponds with the current Hamilton South Ward where the Tories returned a councillor in 2007 and part of my ward too. I need to check up on those again but the Tories only won one ward in Hamilton from 77 to 88 at least (they had two in 1974). Ferniegair itself was held by now MSP, Margaret Mitchell from 1988 to dissolution in 1996 so I think Low Waters was the 1992 pick up.

I'll need to check up on Motherwell, but the Tories had 1 ward in '74, 5 in '77, 3 in '80, and 2 in '84 and '88 IIRC so finished 'on par' in 1992.
