Seems like Schilling has a lead in the upper single digits...the Illinois gerrymander seems to have only netted Democrats a few seats, in contrast to more effective Republican gerrymanders elsewhere. Though the Democrats did get lucky in California and Arizona, which offsets things...

The Democrats might not even net two seats, let alone a few. Their gerrymander was fairly "effective." What wasn't working for the Democrats is Barack Obama, and their tax increases at the state level. They didn't "cut the lines as fine as possible" in the hopes of winning neighboring districts. They packed it with Democrats and conceded the neighboring district to the Republicans. In race after race you may very well see the Republican win in districts with very high Obama 2008 numbers. How you govern matters. And, if you do a bad enough job, gerrymandering isn't going to save you.
