Both sides do it. Look at the colleges and universities. You get shut down for saying things that hurt BLM. I'm so proud of being a centrist.

Have you ever articulated a centrist political position here on these forums? Confining all political debate to posts of one sentence (or fewer) that only assert vague feelings on an issue without committing to any policy specifics does not make you a centrist.

What a brave stand. We agree on little, but good work Mitch.

How exactly is shutting down a Senator for telling the truth "brave"?

Well you see, Jeff Sessions is a special snowflake, and someone had to protect him from getting his feelings hurt.

So let me get this straight:

But what if a Senator does something or has a motive unbecoming of a Senator?! And what if that Senator is nominated to a position that must be confirmed by the Senate? How the f*&$ is the Senate supposed to debate that Senator's confirmation Huh Serious question.

Wait, they used rule 19 to block criticism of a nominee because they're a Senator? Horrible rule.

Indeed they did.

Is there any precedent for the rule being used in the way it was used? (i.e. to regulate debate of the nomination of a U.S. Senator to another position)

No, there isn't; this was a selective and petty use of the rule to penalize dissenting speech. Moreover, the chamber had the opportunity to vote to set precedent on whether or not it was sensible to apply the rule in this way, and the cowards voted on party lines. You can't fall back on, "But the rule says!"
