I mean, everybody gets better rates via USPS than via FedEx or UPS for almost everything. Years ago I handled tech procurement for a Fortune 500 company and you'd think the rates we got via FedEx, UPS and DHL would be phenomenal...nope. It was arguably more expensive for us than for an Average Joe just shipping one package at a time through them (especially FedEx) - and in most cases, not inherently any faster. We'd often spend $20 to ship something via FedEx or $10 via UPS that could have been shipped via USPS for $6-7.
Really the only reason to go with non-USPS is if you absolutely want to guarantee overnight delivery (AFAIK, USPS still doesn't guarantee overnight even with its overnight-like shipping option) or you're in a really rural area where Priority Mail can take more than 3 days and you need it quickly. However, my experience has been that when comparing the three similar options for intermediate delivery (USPS Priority Mail, UPS Ground and Fedex Express Saver), USPS delivers as quickly and consistently as Fedex (2 days, sometimes 3) and for about half the price; UPS Ground is slightly more expensive than USPS but it can take anywhere from 2-6 days for something to arrive.
