The Revolutionary government basically legalized prostitution, which the monarchy had previously banned. Which makes opebo's steadfast support of the ancien regime kind of ironic.

Well, I suppose the old ways represented different things indifferent lands.. but one rather doubts that there was any effective enforcement of anti-prostitution statutes under the monarchy..


I don't think the upper class in pre-revolutionary France needed prostitutes as we normally think of them. I'm pretty sure they had access to a lot of women in exchange for pay without fear of prosecution though.

Opebo, you could have an official mistress. It's better than prostitution.

I'm not so sure about that.

Anyway I think the distinction Gustaf is making above is more a matter of pretense on the part of the participants than any real difference.
