The big ticket items in the U.S. federal budget are, in order, defense and homeland security, social security, medicare and medicaid. The layouts for the last three are going to grow as the baby boomers retire. If you're going to shrink the budget deficit by cutting taxes in the coming years, you got to run on cutting considerable sums from these big ticket items. Now, there are some campaign slogans for ya: "Eviscerate Defense Spending!" "Cut Off Our Seniors!" "Take All Their Medicines Away!"
Daniels was understating the obvious.
Why not do what American politicians have done for years - run on increasing spending, cutting taxes and bringing down the deficit? Did I mention heartland values, pro-growth policies and fiscal responsibility? Or do you not care about the plight of the middle-class? [...continues rambling...]
