This poll:

CO: O+3
VA: R+3
OH: R+2
FL: R+1

Purple's previous polls (July / June / April):
CO: O+1 / O+2 / Tie
VA: O+2 / O+3 / O+2
OH: O+3 / R+3 / O+5
FL: R+3 / R+4 / R+2

Looks like it's effectively no change.  A slight nudge to Romney if one wants to push the interpretation of the numbers, but the changes are well within the poll to poll variability Purple has already shown.   Judging by the states that improved for Obama since their last poll, one could also push the Ryan hurts Romney with seniors meme since Colorado and Florida are retiree havens.

In any case, there is certainly nothing to show that Ryan is a gamechanger, and possibly that he is a dud depending on how much of a bounce one expects the mere fact of a veep announcement to generate.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are working to ensure Medicare is affordable to future generations.

That's sort of like saying that if the Romney/Ryan restaurant were to replace sirloin steak with Salisbury steak, they would be doing do to ensure steak is affordable to future generations.

Salisbury steak is better than eating nothing and starving to death.

Except starving to death isn't the alternative in this case.  There do need to be cutbacks in spending, and Ryan's voucher plan is one way to achieve that, but to pretend that there will be no difference in the quality of coverage is fundamentally dishonest and the Republican pandering on this point for short-term political gain keeps the necessary reforms (whatever their final shape is) from being achievable because such reforms will need genuine broad-based support.

The dishonest claims that Romney and Ryan make about their own plans are detrimental to the goal of entitlement reform.
