They are the only region without a national guard, have no constitution establishing them as a real independent body, and their leader is...um...absent. They would be the perfect region to invade Smiley

If invaded I'll order a group of Marylanders to hold all of Nyman (which is in our region) hostage until the other 3 regions bring in their large armies and take out the Midwesterners.

Some problems with that plan, Akno.
First of all you're assuming that the other Regions will care about what happens to the city of Nyman.  That might be the case for the Northeast, but I think it is safe to say that the Southeast and probably the pacific Regions won't mind all that much if we lose a few bureaucrats.
Second, you're assuming that the Midwest doesn't share.  If we decided to go to a four Region setup, it would be easiest to eliminate the Mideast Region and use the following map:

I think people will care if we hold hostage a Presidential Candidate who is amazingly popular, such as Kemperor. So Ernest, you don't care if the heads of WMS and StatesRights get chopped off?

Why would a Presidential Candidate waste his time being in Nyman?

The new Senate isn't is place so why would Senator-elect WMS be there?

As for StatesRights, given the monster some make him out to be, what makes you think his head wouldn't just grow back? Smiley

... this isn't going to happen right now. It can wait 2 weeks.

Well then, we'll have plenty of time to get the people we care about out of Nyman before the invasion takes place.

I will form the People's Militia of Virginia, so that the state may secede from the Mideast and join its Southeastern brethern Wink

You are the only confederate state outside of the Southeast...

You're forgetting about Kentucky amd Missouri, not to mention the Territory of New Mexico (which also included what would become Arizona) and the Five Civilized Tribes of the Indian Territory.

There were governments the CSA recognized for Kentucky and Missourri, with at least as much basis in legality as that which the USA recognized as the government of the Commonwealth of Virginia and which provided the veneer of legitimacy used to form West Virginia.  The same can be said for the civiliized tribes, and had Gen. Sibley been successful, the Territorial government he proclaimed in Santa Fe might well have lasted.  Interestingly, the Confederates planned to divide New Mexico into two territories much as the Union did during the war,  burt whereas the Union Arizona was formed from the western half of New Mexico Territory, the Confederate Arizona was formed from the southern half of New Mexico Territory.
