Sounds good in general, but we need the F-35B as a replacement for the Harriers.  It's been 13 years since the last all-new Harrier left the factory.  While conceivably purchases of the A and C variants could be replaced by F-16E/F's for the F-35A and F-18E/F's for the F-35C, with the F-35B remaining in production, I'm dubious that there would be significant cost savings, especially in the case of dropping the F-35C.
