I love the way that Republicans imagine themselves to be persecuted in society. Phil is the most typical example of this martyr-mindset, but this thread comes pretty damn close.

LOL

Uh, ok. When can we get rid of this troll, by the way? He's persecuting me!

Do you dispute the fact that you, like so many other conservatives, whine about the media, whine about the intelligentsia, whine and piss and moan about the 'unfairness' of secularization, etc.? That instinct is there because it is the chief instinct of Christianity.

Actually, compared to most conservatives, I don't whine about the media or "intelligentsia." Yes, I guess I "whine and piss and moan" about unfair secularization but no more than you whine and piss and moan about religion in society.

The funny thing about me is that I can't stand elitism and the snobbish attitudes of some in academia yet I am criticized by the folksy types (Mike Naso) for being an urban elitist. I'm criticized for attacking the UN by some people and then I disappoint some of my friends on the right for strongly opposing the idea of the U.S. leaving the UN. I can't stand the European mindset on a lot of issues so I'm seen as a typical, backwards American by some and then I simply state my interest in European affairs and how much I enjoy visiting the continent and I'm treated as a European wannabe. I can't stand the condescending, arrogant attitude of many in academia so I'm labeled as ignorant yet when I go on to point out that they do have some fair points that we must assess, my fellow conservatives cringe at the idea that I might be defending evil socialists!

I really am a much more complex individual than many make me out to be. However, I expect you to simply who I am because that's part of your act.

because conservatism isn't really anti-elitist. It exists, in fact, to prop up the elite interests (corporate, religious, and otherwise) and guard their power against the democratizing effects of both left-wing and libertarian politics.

I don't identify with those elites either.

I don't get how I'm the Palin type since Palin doesn't have the problem of being labeled as an elitist by some. I don't remember her being accused of being a UN apologist, European loving, academia sympathizer.
