With a little over a month to go and things starting to heat up, this thread seems appropriate. And to prove that things are starting to get serious, I just saw Lautenberg's ad hitting Andrews on Iraq. It was perfect (unfortunate for us Andrews backers).

Check it out for yourself - http://www.lautenbergfornj.com/multimedia/video?id=0006

I don't know how to predict either primary. The GOP race seems to be totally up in the air. As for the Dems, word is that things are looking good for Andrews, especially with these big newspaper endorsements. I hope he wins.

I have seen some Andrews ads in the NYC market over the past couple of days.  That's all I can add.

The real question here is:  Who does the Mafia want to win?
Well, Lautenberg does not have an Italian ring to it, I'd say Pennachio

That doesn't matter much to the Mafia when it comes to business. If we want to use stereotypes, the Mafia works with Jews.

Lautenberg will win by double digits. Andrews is a "go whichever way the wind is bliowing" type of Democrat, and that's not what we need.

Andrews has been a pretty solid moderate-to-liberal Democrat his entire time in office.

They don't care to hear that. As long as he's popular with Republicans (especially Republicans like me), they will dislike the guy. He'll make a great Senator if he wins.

Mostly I will be voting for Lautenberg because he has shown consistency

Besides, I don't believe he actually did support the war, even though that doesn't really help my argument.  ...Who thinks he would have actually voted for the war?

So...he's a liar?

Did anyone see the debate last night? It was quite good. Lautenberg spoke well for the most part until near the end when he started this Ted Kennedy-esque boston "uh's"

I saw a bit of it but I was kind of out of it (after surgery). Lautenberg is an absolutely horrific speaker. The "uh's" didn't come towards the end either. They were present throughout. I'm about to watch the GOP debate and then the Andrews vs. "the other guy" debate on ABC. I have a feeling the GOP debate will be amusing.

That's one of my problems with Andrews. His wife was on one of the local news broadcasts last night, saying she would not step aside for him. Sure.

That Republican debate was just awful. I think it was the worst debate I've ever watched. The candidates are some of the worst I've ever seen as well.

Sabrin was the only who could string together a coherent sentence.

I guess that's one redeeming quality of Sabrin. Then again, concerning his speaking, he loves using those terrible phrases like "liberal loser lobbyist" over and over again.

So how much is Lautenberg going to win by tomorrow?

I'd say around twenty points, something like 55-35-10 (10 going to Cresitello).

Are you serious? It won't be that bad for Andrews. And is Cresitello really expected to hit double digits after such minor exposure?

So how much is Lautenberg going to win by tomorrow?

Also, dwtl may onto something here.  It is only when the GOP nominates a completely incompetent candidate that it will actually win a Senate seat in NJ.  Fits with the state entirely.

Haha, how true. It's also funny that it seems like they're going to nominate someone like Pennacchio - the most conservative nominee for statewide office in decades - when this race had the potential for being the best showing for the GOP in quite some time.

I'm perfectly serious. Andrews has no appeal at all to North Jersey

Doesn't he have some serious machine support up there?

For the Ds, the octogenarian by 10 points over the architect of the Iraq War. On the GOP side, the guy who lost to the Torch and a five-time winner of Jeapordy will trounce the Paulite and the crypto-fascist.

Zimmer won Jeopardy? Interesting.

Anyway, I don't think anyone will be trouncing anyone else in the GOP primary. And, if anything, the suggestion is that "Jersey Joe" unfortunately has the edge.

He's talking about Rush Holt.

Oh, I see. I read that one wrong. Rush Holt won Jeopardy? Interesting but not surprising. Is there anything that man hasn't done that's intellectually stimulating?

Serve as a U.S. Senator.

Good one. Let's keep it that way.

What is your objection to Holt?  I'm shocked you support Andrews, but oppose Holt.

My best guess is that Holt is a heck of a lot more liberal than Andrews.

Bingo. That and the fact that Holt is all about being oh so very smart.

i guess i endorse whatever assistant city manager you republicans have running against him.

He's actually a former Congressman. He lost to Lautenberg in 1996 by about ten points.

i dont recall lautenberg running in 96.  he did run in 94 against some state rep who nearly beat him.

My apologies. I was thinking of the seat that Lautenberg currently has. He was a Class I Senator before his brief retirement. The guy who is running against him this time ran against Toricelli in 1996.

You have to love this piece of filth Lautenberg. I'm watching the repeat of the election coverage on NJN. He was asked about debates with Zimmer. His response? "He has to bring something to the table. I want to hear what he stands for. So far, I know that he stands for lobbying..."

What does that mean? You don't like what he stands for so no debates? Classic. Thank you, New Jersey!
