How strange.  I suppose a lot has to do with name recognition: Michels challeneged Feingold in 2004, didn't he?  But apart from that he's not an exceptionally strong candidate. 

Michels did run against Feingold two years ago and lost by twelve points. If Mark Neumann had run in that campaign Feingold would have had a much tougher fight.
